Metro Diner

This family-runned diner is the best one yet in the Manhattan area. Every time we visit, we come here! With amazing breakfasts to Thanksgiving dinner, this restaurant has it all! Support family-runned places!

  • Strawberry-Topped Pancakes
  • Squash Soup
Setting: Pretty Large. Indoor.
Service: Can be fast, but also can be slow. Can be friendly, but can be cold too sometimes!

Good things: Food. Dessert/Pastry Choice.
Bad things: Plates/Silverware are sometimes not clean, so check beforehand!!!

*Family Friendly. My favorite place in the NYC area.

The Hard Times Café

This restaurant was great! It had wonderful service and the food was reasonable too! It's mostly a sports bar, so it's dark, but also a family friendly restaurant. It's menu mostly focuses on Chili, but has a wide variety of everything else.

Specialties/Favorites:
  • Original Sliders - Very tender - Good proportion
  • Grilled Chicken Quesadilla
Setting: Medium-Sized, but many floors. Indoor.
Service: Really helpful/nice. Great with children. Fast!

Good things: Chili. Nice servers.
Bad things: No milkshakes! 

*Kids Menu is to 11 years old, but very flexible. I am 12, and they let it pass!

Jardines de San Juan

Come and enjoy some really good Mexican food at this indoor/outdoor restaurant. From delicious Chimichangas to Mexican Hot Chocolate Homemade Ice Cream, this restaurant is perfect for a family lunch or brunch! Come here to San Juan Bautista for a getaway with your family or some friends.

Setting: Large. Indoor/Outdoor. Open aired. Garden.
Service: Pretty Friendly.

Good things: Good variety of food. Nice servers.
Bad things: Takes a long time to receive food.
 
*This authentic Mexican restaurant is perfect for families and tourists who are coming to see the Mission. 

**Their Mexican Hot Chocolate Ice Cream is so good! It is like no other ice cream you have ever had! It has nuts and you can definitely taste the cinnamon. If you just want a bite and you are a big group (like 10ish), get two orders (too big scoops), so everyone can have a taste! It is now my favorite type of ice cream. :)

Ducey's On The Lake Restaurant

This restaurant overlooking Bass Lake in California, is the perfect place to eat seafood when you feel like chillaxin'. From large groups of kids to couples, Ducey's will be on top of everything. Watch the X Games or any other sport  games on their surrounding flat-screened TVs while drinking some ice cold lemonade. You can even play games yourself!

Setting: Medium sized. 2 floors. Clean.
Service: Friendly.

Good things: Good variety of food. Nice servers. Great setting! You can see Bass Lake.
Bad things: Can get loud and full quickly!

*The seafood is really good and the restaurant itself is extremely kid-friendly. If you are thinking of bringing a big group, reservations are necessary for a no-wait meal!

iL Diavolo

This cozy Pizzeria has authentic and yummy (x1000) Italian pizza for the whole family! With great service, food, beverages and dessert, this all adds up to an enjoyable night with either family or friends. Kids are always welcome to this open-aired little Italy and I definitely love it as much as you would!

  • Any of their Thin Crust Pizza
  • Limonada Mineral (Sparkling Lemonade)
Setting: Small & Cozy. Open-aired patio. Dark (candle-lit) @ night.
Service: Really nice! Very kid-friendly.

Good things: Pizzas, Service & Location.
Bad things: Can get very crowded on weekend nights. Can get a little too dark.
*If you have a newborn or loud baby, I don't think you should bring him/her here! Dinner, or Late-night is the best time to come. Do not arrive after 9pm or else you'll have to wait about 40 mins!

Di'Cicco's Italian Restarant

This Italian restaurant is extremely kid-friendly and great for any large or small family. If you're tired of eating at your house near Yosemite, come here where there will always be a wide variety of food! It is located in a convenient location too! With a great view of all the nature, waiters will help make your meal even better. I came here with a party of seven, and they seated us in a few minutes!

May Island

This is my favorite Japanese/Chinese restaurant yet in Virginia. If you are thinking this is one of those expensive, not-tasty-enough and overly priced Japanese restaurants, YOU ARE WRONG! This cute little restaurant is really well priced and they have amazing food! From kid's Bento boxes to Udon, this is where your heart is going to connect to!

Bad things: Small. Can get cold, so BRING A SWEATER!

*This is the most authentic Japanese/Chinese restaurant my family has found so far in the DC area. It is also the least expensive! There are spanish speaking waiters as well.

Silver Diner

This cute and popular diner in Arlington, Virginia is one of my favorite places to eat with my family or to celebrate a special occasion! From Chicken-Fried Steak to Double Fudge Brownies with ice cream, this place has a really big variety. It is super kid-friendly and you can get really good deals!

*This is the most popular diner in the Arlington area. If you want a classic American burger with fries, come here! But they keep getting healthier and healthier, so if you like things the opposite, this is NOT the place for you! (tee hee) They have some great deals once you sign up for free (including getting a free dessert on your birthday with a purchase of an entree)

There's nothing like a good New York Style thin-crust pizza, is there? I know just the right place to get it! Fairlington Pizza Shop (or as my family nicknamed it: Cambio no Cambio) is the best place for a casual family dinner. From subs to dessert, this place has a variety of choices and a great setting!
